I like these finds as they show that life in the military camp wasn`t all about drill and polishing boots :)
All this fishing equipment has been found in dumping pits in gebirgsjäger camps during the last couple of years. The field kitchen units, and soldiers themselves, used any chance they could to add to the food supply. Fishing would be an easy and natural way to do so as most of the camps I have found these bits in has a good river or lake nearby. A few times I have found fishing nets as well, but its been rotted to the point where it fell apart when touching. I imagine this way of increasing the food supply could have a positive recreational effect on bored- and traumatized soldiers as well. I like these finds as they show that life in the military camp wasn`t all about drill and polishing boots :) The reel is a fly fishing reel, and the two bits next to it are spinners. Two food tins made into a bait and tackle box. When I found it it contained a small brush, two rusted lumps of hooks and tackle and a couple of lures. The two aluminum lures are field made.
