The local museum had made a small exhibition marking the day, so of course me and the GirlfriendWife had to go. There we found several very nice miniature models of the Tirpitz, her sister ships and some of the RAF planes. There were interesting photos and info and a few items from the ship. The conservator of the museum is an avid miniature modeller, ww2 enthusiast and also a biologist, just like the GirlfriendWife, so we had some interesting chats, and an idea about making an exhibition with some of my stuff were planted as well :D
Today, the 12th November 2024 it is 80 years since RAF bombers gave the german battleship Tirpitz her final blow where she was laying for repairs by Haakøya outside Tromsø. 29 bombers flew out from Scotland under the name Operation Catechism. During the eight minutes it took the planes to deliver their bombs, Tirpitz were struck by two Tallboy bombs, and capsized a few minutes later. Nearly 1000 Kriegsmarine sailors were killed, while the British had no losses. The local museum had made a small exhibition marking the day, so of course me and the GirlfriendWife had to go. There we found several very nice miniature models of the Tirpitz, her sister ships and some of the RAF planes. There were interesting photos and info and a few items from the ship.
