pile of german tent pegs

Through the years of metal detecting I have dug up a decent amount of german tent pegs, or Zeltpflöcke as they called them.

Each soldier were issued a Zeltbahn ( a quarter of a tent shelter), which could be buttoned together with two- or more pieces to form a tent. The soldiers were also issued three tent pegs.

The pegs came since before WW1 in several different variations, and materials, such as wood, pressed wood, iron and aluminum.

Often they were marked with a manufacturers code and year of production.

At some point I decided I wanted to build a collection of pegs, and today I have a bit more than thirty with different markings. Doublets I have traded, given away or sold.

Most of them were found by myself in Norway or Kurland, Latvia, while a couple were gifted to me by friends searching the old battlefields in Karelia, Russia.

There are still many manufacturer codes to collect, so I hope the next digging season will provide me with some, or if you reading this are also hoarding these and have doublets to trade, send me a mail.

The pegs are ca 26 cm long, and had a ten centimeter loop of rope in the eyelet.
