For a couple of summers I have been searching this area and found several small dumping pits and a number of objects scattered around , but last time I was there I had a signal from the detector that really wasn`t very good but I decided to dig it anyway. I am very happy I opened up the ground here because it is all rust and bottles! 98% of it so far has been destroyed food tins , buckets , nails and whatnot , but in between it all a couple of nice items and a bunch of German beer bottles.

A little bit underneath the top soil it is so tightly packed with rust that I don`t think there is much soil between.

The next day I went here I was curious on another signal the F5 gave and started digging it , and I smelled something familiar, but at first I couldn`t remember what the smell was,,so I kept digging,,the smell was stronger and I could also hear a very weak buzzing sound,,hmmm,,what ever could it be?? I looked around and saw nothing , but then I saw all the soil
was moving , it moved on my metaldetector,up my shovel,on my feet and arms,,ANTS!!!! aaaaahhh,,Panic!!They was all over me,,Gawd,,never dig next to a large anthill!

MKB (Marine Küsten Batterie) 5/510 is situated directly outside Bodø in Nordland. It was operational in October 1940 and was armed With 4  15cm guns with a range up to 16000 meter. I believe it was ww1 uboat guns that was used at this fortification. There was also 5 20mm FlaK guns, a 5cm KwK a 4,7 PaK , 4 searchlights and 2 mortar positions. In addition there was a Freya radar and several Mg positions , fixed flamethrowers and close defence trenches. Several different Regelbau is scattered around the hill and inside the hill is a large bunker system. A group of local enthusiasts has restored parts of the complex and the bunkers inside the hill is often used for concerts , parties and similar. I am sorry for the somewhat blurry pics , but I am playing around with a new camera and hasn`t mastered it completely yet.

When Spring came to visit

Last week it finally looked like winter was over for this time. The sun and warm winds started to thaw the snow and ice and I wasn`t slow to put together the metaldetetor and get out there. Every day I went to a small ravine where a lot of stuff got dumped , burned and buried after the Liberation in 1945. It was great being out in the woods smelling the forest and seeing it come to life again.
