A Summer Solstice Stroll

This weekend was the first real day with summer this year, Saturday was sunny but a bit windy, and today Solstice and a brilliant weather. After the morning coffee I went back to a often visited site, I was really only making a quick trip there to pick up a small iron cast oven top lid I left yesterday. I had spent a few hours there roaming around not finding anything of interest and no new dumping pits. I dug one, but I had discovered it before snow came last season. In it I found several half rotted away k98 ammo pouches, some buttons, bottles and lots of rusted rubbish. Therefore I thought today it would be a quick trip as I surley must have found all the dumping pits in the area by now. Man, how wrong I could be. As I got near to where the lid should be I turned on the detector and got a good big signal right away. I opened up the ground and behold, a new dumping pit!! The first thing I pulled out was a piece of helmet liner leather, my heart jumped and I had big hope the rest would be in there, but no such luck this time. I spent about two hours clearing it. In between all the usual rusted bits, a bunch of railway sleeper bolts, bottles and ammo I found a nice little bakelite box for toothpaste, quite rare item infact. Around the pit I found some chains and hooks, probably for horse equipment and a kool knife with bakelite grip, looks like a close combat knife of some sort.

I filled back the opened pit and moved towards the place where I had dug the bunker stove lid. I didnt move many meters before the Fisher F5 screamed in joy, it had located another dumping pit! And then another one! I was very surprised. I only opened the soil to see that it actually was dumping pits, and will be back there to dig them prehaps tomorrow. I got near the place with the lid and dug another interesting signal, it was the top of the bunker stove! And then I finally found the lid and put them both in my bag. Now I started to become thirsty and hungry and I hadn`t brought any supplies, and I was covered in ants as they are swarming now. I started moving towards the car and on my way there I found 3 or 4 more dumping pits. Seems like I ll be visiting this place the entire next week :) Well at home now and will change into "civillian"clothes, collect all the ants from my hair and pockets, pile the finds onto the kitchen table for cleaning tonight, and now I shall bring a cold beer out on the porch enjoying the beautiful sunny Solstice.
Enjoy the day my fellow Pagans :)
