losantine bottles. Bakelite bottle containing liquid for protecting the skin against gas, german ww2
This weekend there was no digging. My brothers visited me and our parents so I had a nice relaxing weekend together with them, but today I was back in the forest. I had to finish the pit I began digging on Thursday so I took direction towards it, swinging the metal detector in front of me. I dug a few signals and found some k98 ammo and some scrap metal and modern rubbish before I noticed a little dump in the forest floor. The Fisher gave of a nice mixed signal so I dug it open. It was a small dumping pit with a few nice items. I pulled out a few losantine bottles, a gas mask canister, a leather pouch with goggles inside, it was a alu canteen there, some bottles and a few other bits.

When I had filled back the hole I walked a bit further and found the hole from thursdays digging. I widened all the sides until there was no more metal and then I began digging to find the bottom of it. It didn`t take too long as I had dug most of it before the weekend, but some items came out from the ground. I found a small porcelain jar, dug out the lid for it on thursday so it is nice to have it complete. Then I found another canteen, a piece of a signal flare, a leather scabbard for a knife, could be for a Finnish Pukko knife, and a leather pouch for Erkennungsmärke, but no tag. When it was empty I filled it back and continued to search for more signals.

Continuing the search I had a good signal instantly, I had to use the pinpointer to locate it and it was a German coin. A 10 Reichspfennig I think, but will know for sure when I`ve cleaned it.
The next signal the Fisher gave off was again a strong mixed signal so I took off my backpack and opened up another dumping pit. It was a good layer of rocks on top and the ground was also rock hard here so it was difficult to dig at first, but when I got that top layer away it was sandy and easy to dig. It proved to be quite a big pit this, I dug it for a few hours and removed a lot of rubbish, but inbetween a few nicer items got touched by a human hand again after  70 years. It was mostly leather bits that had survived in this pit, I found two k98 ammo pouches, one was in a sad state, but the other one was quite nice and surprisingly it had a bayonet frog stuck on the back. The other leather bit was a fieldshovel belt hanger. I also found some flares, a few k98 casings, a rifle cleaning kit, a losantin tablet box and a rosodont box. On the bottom of the hole was a nice beer bottle, well marked.
It had been a good day,the bag was filled with relics and it was getting dark so it was time to leave back home.

Stay happy,,and muddy:)
