When I had filled back the ditch I didn`t go very far before I had a good signal again. This time it was a gasmask container, still with mask inside. Then I found a PUMA close combat knife, with sheet and the wooden grips!! I dug up a bunch of signal flares all together under the moss and next to them some food tins that hid an unmarked porcelain cup and a clay schnapps bottle. The day had become warm and sunny by now and I only had a half full backpack so I had a quick lunchbreak, sitting by the river looking at the birds flying around before I continued.
After some boring rusted food tins I dug up a small tag with "Bella" and some numbers on it, maybe a horse or dog name tag, and then I found another little dumping pit. First I pulled out wires and nails, and broken bottles, before I realized I was cleaning soil off a metal box. The lid was open so if anything was inside it, it could very well be ruined. I carefully opened the lid and gasped.. jawdropping.. The box seemed to be full of Mg34 parts and tools!! I struggled with it for a while before I got it out from the ditch, managing to loose its lid in the process. The thing was really heavy! When I had taken a breather I started dragging it with me back to the car, which was faaar away of course. It took quite some effort, but dripping wet from sweat I got it into the van and drove home as fast as the wheels could spin.
On the lawn I emptied the box and sorted the finds. Definately a Waffenmeister crate with a lot of really interesting bits, most of them rusted and some caked in rocks and soil but some cleaning will make them presentable for an exhibition. This is one of the craziest finds I have had and something I have dreamt about finding... it seems some dreams come true sometimes :)
Now I need a good long night rest before Im heading back out to the forest again tomorrow :)
